Carnival - The Giant Cruise Line

Today, Carnival Cruise Lines is the largest and most successful in the world. But today's Carnival is a very different company than it's humble beginnings. Launched in 1972 by a man with a big dream; To make what was until then an enjoyment for the very rich, available to the common man. On the inaugural cruise of the TSS Mardi Gras, a converted ocean liner, the ship ran aground on a sandbar near the Port of Miami. But less than three years later, the second ship entered service as the TSS Carnivale, previously the Empress of Britain.

In 1984 it became the first cruise line to advertise on national television, with Kathie Lee Gifford. In 1987 the company undertook it's IPO on Wall Street, raising about $400 Million. In 1994 it changed it's name to Carnival Corporation and combined with P&O Princess Cruises, and becomes the world's largest cruise line by far. In 1996 the first vessel over 100 thousand tons arrives, the Carnival Destiny. In 2002, it's the 110,000 ton Carnival Conquest. In 2003 it starts cruises from Port Canaveral, Florida. In 2004 it's Carnival in Jacksonville, Florida. In 2005 Carnival arrives in the Mediterranean. In 2008 the first Northern Europe cruise sets sail.

In early 2008, following a spike in oil prices, the company began charging a $9 fuel surcharge. In December, after a sharp drop in oil prices, Carnival announced that the surcharge would disappear on cruises after December 17. Passengers having already paid would receive an onboard credit. The company's director of marketing warned that the fuel surcharge might return if fuel prices increase.

Two ships sail from the port of Tampa. The M/S Carnival Inspiration, and the M/S Carnival Legend. Both on cruises to the western Caribbean.

Miami based Carnival has 88 ships with over 169,000 lower berths. Another seventeen ships are on order for delivery in the next three years, including the Carnival Dream which, at 130,000 tons, will wow the world once again.

Finding a Caribbean Cruise Ship For Your Family

Years ago cruises were primarily for couples and a few singles. Today more and more families are taking cruises together. The cruise industry has changed a bit to accommodate families by providing many activities for the whole family and other family friendly amenities. Some cruise lines have been quicker to respond than others though. If you are planning a Caribbean cruise for your family then you want to be sure to find a Caribbean cruise ship that will meet the needs of your entire family. Here are some tips in helping find a Caribbean cruise ship for your family vacation.

The first thing to do is look for a Caribbean cruise ship that is designed with families in mind. This cruise line will have a children's program that offers a wide variety of activities for children of all ages. This is especially important as your children will be aboard a ship with nowhere to go and will become easily bored. Check into the number of activities the Caribbean cruise ship offers for children and families as this will give you an idea of how much the family is a priority to that particular cruise ship. Others things to check out is how they handle infants and toddlers on the ship and if there is babysitting provided.

The next tip is to look into the dining accommodations. Many parents would rather not take their little ones into a dining room with gourmet fare every evening they are aboard ship. Family friendly cruise ships will have alternate dining arrangements for families with food that children will eat. Usually there will be a buffet restaurant with plenty of choices on the menu for everybody to enjoy a delicious meal. Some Caribbean cruise ships have programs that allow children to eat with their youth directors so mom and dad can enjoy the gourmet food in the formal dining hall a night or two.

When planning a cruise for the whole family it is wise to do some research to find a Caribbean cruise ship that is family friendly so each member of the family can have an enjoyable experience together.

Five Star World Cruise Cuisine

One of the best aspects of any five star world cruises is going to be the food. In fact some of the best and most interesting cuisines are served up on these cruises. You can even go on five star world cruise vacations where the point is simply to explore the world and learn how to cook with one great chef who is a guest on board.

Cruise lines are becoming more aware of how attracted people are to celebrity chefs and learning new ways to cook and what better way to pack people on board than to turn the five star world cruises into a floating five star restaurant as well.

If you are on a diet a five star around the world cruise is probably not for you. This is because you might be served as many as five meals a day. Aside from the regular lunch and dinner you will probably be served tea and a midnight buffet as well. If you get hungry in the middle of the night there is usually some kind of all night self service buffet located somewhere on the ship as well.

You can expect all different styles of foods and food presentations and for many different types of cuisine styles to be served. It is not uncommon at all for there to be French, Italian, Asian and Fusion cuisines available on board and created out of one kitchen. These are not your regular restaurant meals either.

Many of them are gourmet in flavor. It can also depend on the cruise line you are on. Exotic cuisines such as Indonesian, Filipino or Tibetan food are currently very au courant on a five star world cruise as are the famous fusion cuisines from Miami, Florida and New Orleans.

Cocktails are also usually quite spectacular on these voyages and may be themed and named after wherever you are going. You can expect your martinis to be cleverly mixed together and to boast some elaborate and unusual garnishes. If you are going to Hawaii or Mexico Tikki themed cocktails are often served on this type of five star world cruise.

These trips can also be highly educational. You can also do things like learn how to make works of art out of food or how to make your own sculpture out of ice.

Aside from the usual dinners there is also usually some kind of special dinners. Almost every five star world cruise holds a final farewell Captain's Dinner to mark the end of the voyage. These are usually fantastic affairs that include delicacies like shrimp cocktail, Caviar, pate de fois grois, and classic surf and turf items such as racks of lamb, beef wellington, lobster thermidor, or broiled lobster tails.

Don't forget dessert if you attend one of these Captain's dinners. Typical offering include marzipan wrapped ice cream, Baked Alaska, cherries jubilee, and other amazing delights. It is a good thing that they have gyms on these five star world cruise ships or many people taking part in them would gain weight.

Plan Your Cruise Holidays - But How?

Cruises are exciting for you and your family with a holiday where you can have the most fun ever.

We have all thought about taking a cruise, even it is only the once. Cruise ships are unique in offering the best holidays for you to enjoy.

These types of ships can be described as a floating hotel, as you can enjoy all the amenities a hotel usually offers, whilst sailing through the oceans at the same time. On board you will find casinos, gyms, shops and little boutiques, restaurant, theatres, swimming pools as well as many more so that you have all you could ever need without touching dry land.

It does sound wonderful going on holiday on a cruise, but you need to know how to plan it all in the first place. There are lots of cruise lines which offer different packages so you check them all out first to find one that suits you.

It is best to find out how to look for one that will meet all your expectations and your requirements. The following are guidelines to help you choose that all important cruise:

. Who will be going with you? Cruise liners offer many types of packages. There are some to suit the single traveller and some for families.

Decide who will be going with you on holiday.

Are you going with just a partner for a romantic holiday away, or is the family going including the children? Cruise packages can cater for both.

. See how long the cruise is going to be.

There are cruises that go just for three nights, or you take a longer cruise from seven to fourteen days or longer. Whatever suits you the best.

You should decide how long you want to go away for with worrying about anything. Check with your boss that it is fine for you to take the length of holiday that you plan to go, so that you arrive back in time to start work again.

. What destinations do you prefer?

Most people know what would be their ideal destinations for their holiday, so they can decide on where to go.

If you look at the larger names in cruise lines, they offer a wide variety of destinations which are very popular, which should make it easier for you to choose. If you want more information you can get it at their office or look to see if they have a website, and look at the packages of their destinations.

. Departure Port

Look at the ports of departure that the cruise ships have so you consider which is ideal for you. You may have already spent a lot of money on the cruise, so the last thing you want is to have to spend a fortune to get plane tickets, or the fuel required to drive a long way to reach your port of departure for your cruise ship. Check the departure ports available and save yourself a long drive or having to get expensive plane tickets.

. Your Cruise Ship

When you book a holiday cruise you will to find out all about your cruise ship - the most important part. So that you are getting the best, you will want to check the services offered to ensure the maximum in comfort and for your relaxation.

You will find a variety of activities on the larger cruise lines and all the facilities that you should need. If you like a bit of a gamble, then you should choose a ship that has casinos on board; or if you have children who are travelling with you, a cruise ship for families is preferable with activities and facilities in a children's area where they will be looked after.

There are ships which are specially created for a romantic getaway, so that you and your partner are catered for, or if you are taking a second honeymoon, or celebrating a special anniversary.

. The land activities

Cruise ships have lots of activities on board but this isn't what your holiday is all about. You do get some time to stop at different ports for some shore excursions.

Look at what each cruise ship has to offer if you want to get off somewhere for a good guided tour onshore.

Cruise ships offer some excellent destinations where you can stop enroute and get a taste of the different cultures along the way. There are many activities at each port of call. You may to choose to go kayaking, some scuba diving or see the markets for some shopping.

These guidelines will help you to plan your cruise properly so that you are not missing out anything. Once everything has been properly planned you know that your cruise will be a holiday to remember.

Cruise Travel Tips For First Timers

Cruise travel has got to be the most pampered way to see the world, one cocktail at a time. While hard core backpackers are out climbing mountains and fighting third world bus systems, many people prefer to lounge on the main deck, get a tan, and get in early for the dinner buffet. I've worked closely with several cruise specialists in my career as a travel agent, and would like to offer the following cruise travel tips:

Pack plenty of clean napkins. Those hand sanitation napkins are the swiss army knife of cruising. You can use them to remove stains, rather than dealing with laundry services. Also, if used before every meal, they may help prevent you from catching a bug.

Prepare for more sun you ever thought possible. Think about it, most of the activities on a cruise involve exposure to the sun. Protect yourself by bringing a wide brimmed hat, sunscreen (at least SPF 15) and shades that provide 100% UV protection.

Avoid purses and large day packs. If you spend the day at port, try not to brandish your brand new camera or moneybelt. This makes you a target for local pickpockets.

Pack precisely. The key to good packing is to strike a balance between loose and too tight; either extreme will leave you with a wardrobe full of wrinkles. Here's a bit of advice: pack a dryer sheet in with your clothes.

Post-Its. One of my more obscure cruise travel tips. Post-Its allow to communicate with other passengers, housekeeping, and other guest services. Leave a message inside your room to let your shipmates know where and when to meet.

Extra bags. These are right up there with the hand napkins in terms of usability. They are great for storing wet shoes, dirty clothes, and provide added protection for packing valuables.

Maybe the Mediterranean cruise its can be the best cruising choice

How to Pay Less for your Cruise

It used to be the case that the idea of going on a cruise was something that only very rich people would do, and even then, only occasionally as a luxury. Today it is a different story. For some time now it has been the case that cruises are available to the ordinary traveler, and costs have dropped tremendously so that nearly everyone can experience a holiday on the seas, and many people go on cruises as a regular annual holiday.

What is it that has enabled this significant drop in prices, and provided the opportunity of going on a cruise holiday to everyone, even those on a tight budget? As with anything, if the demand is there, the supply increases, and today the demand is so high that new ships are regularly being built, and often the ships being constructed are bigger than ever, with more facilities, more accommodation and a size that rivals the largest hotel on land.
The single most influential factor in this rise to popularity and availability is the internet. Because of the much cheaper, quicker and wider access that cruise line companies have to an audience that likes a bargain, they are able to mass market cruises to a wider and wider audience. People around the world are keen to go on a cruise, and with flights from all over the globe dropping people at the port, or even people being collected from ports along the way, access to a single cruise is no longer something just for residents of one location or even country. The demand for each cruise has gone global, and this has both increased the overall demand, and decreased the overall cost.

Having said that, the lavish and extravagant options are still available for the elite who wish to spend tens of thousands of pounds hiring their own private state room, but for the average holiday maker it often represents a very affordable holiday. With the added benefit - compared to most holidays - that you pay one single price and then everything is included, accommodation, entertainment, food, drink and facilities, it becomes much easier to budget.
The initial price might seem higher than a standard hotel-based holiday on land, but when you take into consideration all the extra costs associated with a holiday, especially the food and drink, this can actually represent very little difference. Of course, the appeal is also that you are rarely limited in this respect, and if you choose you can almost spend the whole day in the restaurants sampling delicious food specially prepared on an almost round the clock taste experience at no extra cost!

The length of cruises has also reduced in some cases to provide these extra bargain cruises, and a short three or four night cruise holiday, which might simply take you across to one or two relatively nearby countries, might well only set you back by a few hundred pounds. I have even seen some weekend cruises advertised for under one hundred pounds per person!
Certainly, using the internet you can search for some fantastic deals, and it is certainly the place to begin to look for such. The best bargains can be those either booked very well ahead, or at the very last minute.

Remember that you can find all inclusive cruises line.Certainly using the internet you can search for some fantasticdeals and more discount cruises.Maybe a Mediterranean Cruise it can be your choice.

What to See on a Mediterranean Cruise

To get a good taste of Europe without the hassle of travelling
by land, take a Mediterranean Cruise.
A Mediterranean cruise is ideal for the traveller not
wanting to visit some of Europe's most fantastic sights by land.
The type of itinerary that takes shape on a cruise is "Tuesday,
Venice", "Wednesday, Rome" etc as each day the ship will be in a
different port. This however is not ideal for the traveller wanting
to spend more time in a particular destination. There are
advantages over a land trip around Europe, whilst on your
Mediterranean Cruise all your accommodation, transport,
food, drinks and normally any port taxes are paid for, almost
like an all inclusive holiday but on the sea.The majority of cruise
lines sail around the Med all year but some are mainly in the
summer months, May to September. There are a variety of
Mediterranean cruises available and depending where you
want to visit can determine which cruise to take. Western Med
cruises take in major cities in France, Italy as well as the glamour
and glitz of Monte Carlo. The Eastern Med cruises are mainly
based on the Aegean Sea around Greece and Turkey as well as
these cruises there are longer itineraries which include both areas
as well as some African ports.

It is an important factor when choosing a cruise to research
where the ship will dock as the itineraries focus on the port
names, for example if you wish to visit Rome, the ship will
dock in Civitavecchia and a transfer to the city will then take
you to and from the port. On average transfers can take a
while so if you choose to see the sights by yourself instead
of the actual guide from the cruise make sure you make the
transfer back! One thing to decide before making the decision
to book your cruise is, do you want to explore the sights of
a particular place or spend more time sun bathing. Cruises
that take in Athens, Florence, Rome, Istanbul, will be more
suited as the ancient and cultural sights are to be seen,
whereas the Balearic and Greek island destinations visited
are better suited to the sun worshipper as they will allow sun
seekers to relax on the beach.

Remember that you can find all inclusive cruises line.
Certainly using the internet you can search for some fantastic
deals and more discount cruises.
Maybe a Mediterranean Cruise it can be your choice.
